A Rat’s Tail and Blood Brothers:
Books One and Two of The Circular Scrolls By Bridget Trafford

PRESS RELEASE

Bridget Trafford introduces her epic fantasy series The Circular Scrolls, with its first and second novels A Rat’s Tail and Blood Brothers, which chart the emotional and spiritual journey of a young girl struggling to grow up in a world that doesn’t seem to understand her.

Sam is a little girl who feels burdened by an intense desire to change her ordinary life. She wants to question the meaning of her existence, to work out who she is and why she doesn’t seem to fit in with the other children at her school. She is frustrated by how superficial and fearful her friends are, and lonely Sam finds herself isolated by her maturity and her inquisitive nature. Her one solace is reading; her vast collection of books affords her the companionship and the escapism she craves. She may be little more than a child but Sam is already an Everyman figure, a young girl at odds with modernity, trying to find her own, unique way in the world. But still Sam is torn between wanting to be independent and finding acceptance amongst her school friends. In one of her precious books, Sam makes an unusual acquaintance; a rat called Kevin Kilcat, who will become her most trusted friend and ally. This furry accomplice will guide her through life’s challenges with the help of a mysterious text called the Book of Possibilities, and Sam’s own, vivid imagination. Together, they must tread carefully along a path of extreme uncertainty, so that Sam can experience the world anew, living other people’s lives and feeling their joy and their pain, to better understand the world around her through a series of magical transformations.

A Rat’s Tail takes Sam on the first of many journeys of self-discovery and mystical adventure. Its successor in the series, Blood Brothers, sees Sam transported backwards through time into another reality and into the body of a Native American boy, having been regressed to 19th Century America. Within these two novels our brave heroine is subjected to a raft of emotions, to death and disaster, injustice and cruelty, freedom and triumph. As readers we grow with Sam, learning invaluable life lessons in tandem with her as she evolves throughout The Circular Scrolls.

Author Bridget Trafford is passionate about spiritual enlightenment but firmly believes that entertainment, fantasy and excitement should not be sacrificed in order to tell a story with true meaning and emotional integrity which will appeal to readers of all ages. A Rat’s Tail and Blood Brothers are united in a shared philosophy that a circle of achievement and realization must be completed before Sam, or indeed Trafford’s audience, can fully comprehend their place in the world and beyond. These first two installments of The Circular Scrolls series show Trafford to be a delicate, thoughtful and inventive writer, whose elegant prose invites the reader into the very heart of her profound narrative.
